EN EL CURSO DE ALEMÁN, ¿EN QUÉ IDIOMA EXPLICAN LOS PROFESORES?

Dania, 14 December 2020

CREATING OUR OWN GERMAN VOCABULARY KIT

Dania, 08 December 2020

Our goal is to be able to use the language, to understand and to have fluent conversations. For that grammar is essential, but what is also necessary is to improve our vocabulary. We learn a lot every day, and while the grammatical structures are constantly repeated, words come and go, and so I needed something to help me remember them. There was an exercise where I was using the same vocabulary over and over because I had no more words on the tip of my tongue. I found helpful then to have them at the tip of my fingers.

Getting to remember words is about practice, to collect them, know their meaning, to repeat and use them in context, and as well to have them handy. There are many useful habits that can help, here is one: I took the advice of a classmate and started to write my own dictionary in a small address book. After each class, I write down the new vocabulary we have learnt using the alphabetical order already provided to organize the words. To have a normal dictionary is really good, but they can be big and we don’t need all the words. To create yours, little by little, goes along with what you are learning and what you find useful depending on your needs and interests.

In my personal kit, I have small recycled old German notebooks where I keep all the things I consider important to remember. And I’ve added as well to my kit my small Wörterbuch! Give it a try and create yours!

LEARN GERMAN WITH SONGS – APRENDE ALEMÁN CON CANCIONES

Dania, 03 December 2020

Do you like music? If you like to listen, sing or play an instrument like me, it is a great idea to use your passions and hobbies as a tool to learn German. Our ears get tuned to the way the language sounds, in repeating a song we will find that it’s easier to learn and internalize phrases, we will learn new vocabulary and what we already know will settle, and above all, without worrying about having a perfect pronunciation, it is a fun way to practice and reinforce our learning. There is a huge variety of songs in German, I am sure you will find many that you will enjoy. It makes me happy to sing this song after only two months of the start of my classes.

TU ESCUELA DE ALEMÁN ALLÍ DONDE LA NECESITAS

Dania, 01 December 2020

ONE OF THOSE MAGICAL WORDS IN GERMAN

Dania, 30 November 2020

In the A1.2 course we learn grammatical structures to ask, answer and describe different situations in a more accurate and complete way, and that is great! German, though, is full of short phrases that can have a variety of meanings depending on the region they are used. German is an official language in 6 countries, co-official in several other regions and each area has its own special words and phrases. I will talk about one that I love and if you ever visit the state of Tyrol in Austria you will find very useful!

This magical word is passt. It is normally used in German, comes from the verb passen and means to fit/match/suit, and it is used in phrases like passt schon when things are ‘all good’. But in the region of Tyrol, pass alone is a convenient word that works to describe a wide range of situations: it looks well: passt, I agree/approve: passt, I like/want it: passt, it’s correct: passt, I’m good/doing good: passt, it works: passt, in order: passt, it pleases me: passt, it’s nice: passt, I understand/know/get (that): passt, we do it: passt, ready: passt, sure: passt, no worries: passt, you’re welcome: passt, it’s not bad: passt, it tastes good: passt and much more!

A very handy word! I could hear passt everywhere in Tyrol, with so many possibilities one can get along with it well. Of course use your shining sentences in German as much as you can, but if you ever find yourself in Tyrol and its gorgeous mountains, make use of this little but so important word!

CONSEJOS PARA ESTUDIAR ALEMÁN EN LÍNEA

Dania, 24 November 2020

BUILDING CONFIDENCE AS A BEGINNER LEARNING GERMAN

Dania, 20 November 2020

I started to learn German by taking the first course, the A1.1. During those 4 weeks in the intensive modality, we learned the basics and I got confident about using my German as it is. I stopped hesitating and started to use what I know. Of course I make mistakes and I don´t have all the tools, but I´m making a great progress just by trying and practicing.

I recommend you to start speaking German from the beginning, with the words you know and the grammatical structures you can manage. Yes, it can be funny! During the first weeks of the course we learnt to use the present tense. So that is what I was practicing and sometimes I was using the present tense to talk about something that happened in the past. So what? It works! People understand and respect that you are trying. In the last week of the course we learnt the “Perfekt”, one of the past tenses in German, which gave me more possibilities and added another dimension to what I could understand and say.

And yes! The pronunciation in German is different and seems complicated at first, but after studying a bit we see that the rules are consistent and we get used to them. The only way to get things going and improving is by doing. Practice and practice! Eventually we will get it right, it will come! Now the A1.2 course is rolling with new challenges and information, I´ll let you know how it goes!

THE FREEDOM OF LEARNING GERMAN LIVE ONLINE

Dania, 09 November 2020

Months ago, when I first thought about learning German, I had no idea I could do it online. Before I found Deutsch Akademie, I thought that learning online meant learning on my own and not in a class. But this school gave me another perspective on how to learn a language in a way that works for many of us: in virtual live classes, with a native German teacher and a group of international students, each of them taking the class from the comfort of their places.

That is exactly what I needed: to be able to learn a language in a school that suits my lifestyle, that doesn´t require me to move to another place for every class, that offers a great variety of schedules with different course times, and that includes support and tutoring outside of the class for questions, practice and help with homework.

Last month, I took the A1.1 intensive course. It is the first course to start the German language journey and I loved it! It´s fascinating lo learn German in this way and to have the freedom to take the class at home or on the road. I enjoy a lot to take homework outside and practice by experiencing! Here I am, learning about the seasons in German, ‘die Jahreszeiten’, in the middle of autumn in the beautiful German Alps.
