The Oldest Biergarten

Sandra, 30. September 2019

Prater Biergarten is the oldest Biergarten in Berlin. It opened in 1837 and it continued serving all year long between the wars as well as after the war.
Every time I go, I feel great a sense of community with lots of locals enjoying their beers and no phones in sight!
Another opportunity to practice my German with friends and the people I get to meet at every outing.

My new German class in Berlin & so many bakeries around

Sandra, 27. September 2019

From the moment you arrive in Berlin you will notice there are lots of bakeries with so many varieties of delicious bread 😋
Every morning on my way to my new German class in Berlin, I pass by Zeit für Brot, where I get my usual cup of coffee with my choice of yummy brot. I can’t get enough of it 🙂

The Berlin Wall

Sandra, 26. September 2019

While walking around the city, I stumble upon none other than the Berlin Wall. The 27-mile barrier, divided physically and ideologically Berlin from 1961 to 1989. The Wall separated West Berlin from surrounding East Germany, including East Berlin. Besides the concrete wall, there were hundreds of guard towers placed all throughout. Berlin is a fascinating city, with so much history that you can still see its presence like the historic Berlin Wall.

Discovering Alexanderplatz after German classes in Berlin!

Sandra, 25. September 2019
Deutsch Akademie with it´s best German classes lies in the heart of Alexanderplatz, which has become a very popular area to go for Berlin natives as well for tourists. It is a great place for shopping, eating and it is the center point for Berlin’s transportation system.
It was named Alexanderplatz in honor of the Russian Emperor Alexander I, who visited this part of Berlin on his trip to Germany.
After Germany’s official reunification in 1990, Alexanderplatz started growing exponentially. It has maintained its socialist architecture style, but a lot of buildings have been renovated and more will be done in the near future as well as several skyscrapers. Old style and new style mxi in this beautiful area of Berlin.

Studying in the library for the best German classes in Berlin!

Sandra, 24. September 2019
After the best German classes in Berlin I like to finish my homework right away and what better place than to go to one of the many public libraries in Berlin. As of now I have been doing a tour of them.
While visiting the Humboldt-Bibliothek, I found out it opened in 1989. From the outside it has a classical and reserved look and inside an impressive spatial experience.
It is also a cultural meeting place where exhibitions, readings, concerts and award ceremonies, so take some time of your day to see it for yourself.

Der Mitte Kiez

Sandra, 23. September 2019

The oldest area of Berlin lies in Mitte (middle). It holds most of the city’s top attractions, so when I moved to this Kiez (neighborhood), I had plenty to discover 🙂
Between 1961 and 1990, Mitte was part of East Berlin, closed to the West and surrounded by the Berlin Wall. Checkpoint Charlie – the iconic border crossing, still exists for tourists to go back in time and cross from one side to the other. These are just a few tidbits about my new neighborhood and each and every one of Berlin’s Kiez has it’s own special charm and history.

Vegan restaurants in Berlin

Sandra, 19 September 2019

I have been a vegan for many years now and one of the reasons I moved to Berlin was because it is so vegan friendly! So many restaurants to choose from. This time I enjoyed a delicious Mittagessen in Mitte. I have not even started to scratch the surface… I have a long way to go!

Transportation in Berlin

Sandra, 18 September 2019

Transportation in Berlin (buses, overground and underground trains and trams) is great, but when you have just arrived, it could be a bit tricky to understand how to navigate them all. Usually, one ticket will allow you to access all transportation, but it’s important to know which one to get so you don’t get a fine from ticket controllers. Go to the BVG website or download the BVG app which will explain in detail which ticket to buy or ask a local and practice your German 🙂

Books!

Sandra, 16 September 2019

I like to often walk around Berlin in areas I have never been and this time I found all these goodies! I’ve always had a love for reading, so now when I buy books, they have to be in German! Trying different ways to interact with the language you are learning is a must 😉

How we study at the best German school in Berlin

Sandra, 12 September 2019

I really enjoy the way classes are structured at Deutsch Akademie. We are presented with different methods of learning, like 5 minute conversation between students about a particular subject, review of our homework of the day, listening lessons and interactive activities. All this makes learning German much easier and enjoyable at the best German school in Berlin!
