Berliner Mauer im Deutschunterricht (by Ece P.)

Berlin means the division and the unification. It is the most important component of the Berlin city and history. So many heart breaking stories, so many incredible memories this Wall holds. I sometimes really think that one should re-listen the whole story about the Wall in German. Not in English, not in Turkish, not in a visual language in an American Film or in a song. One should just tell it in German. The German language has an amazing capacity to give different feelings thought different words in such a detailed way.

DDR-Kultur im Deutschunterricht (by Ece P.)

Of course, if the wall has been mentioned, it is not possible to skip DDR. And indeed it is another issue that needs German terminology. That is the best way understanding the city as well… Not solely the city, its architecture, population, system and the wit of the Berliners! The important DDR component in the Berlin mixture is very vital as it is one of the main ‘theme’ (or reality – more than a theme) in this city.

Prenzlauerberg the P-town of Berlin (by Ece P.)

When I moved to Prenzlauerberg, my friends told me they call this neighbourhood as P-town. Indeed Pregnant Town in it is. It is the heaven for young families, with their babies. Baby trolleys everywhere. Which also means the great number of Playgrounds! And I love this! The variety of the playgrounds in terms of design is really outstanding in Berlin. None of them is identical, they all have a unique design. This one, for example, has this raw, primitive look. It is small, but has definitely style! As long as the weather gets better, this will be a place full of children!

Moving on to the german course B2(1) (bye Ece P.)

Two days left to the exhibition. The exhibition that will say if we can move on to B2.1 or not. Well… we will see. Mirjam our teacher is really doing her best. Never her courses are boring. She very well know how to keep the interest as well as the tempo up in the class. Honestly, I am very happy to have the opportunity to meet her. Yes, she is doing her best, and we all students are, too. On wednesday we will see how far we can go.

Berlin is a startup city, yes it is! (by Ece P.)

Berlin is a startup city, yes it is. Not only the physical city itself, but also the Berlin’s virtual internet sphere is also full of startup companies. The people who are behind there new flourishing companies are the young and fresh brains that are full of ideas. And this all perfectly makes sense. It is indeed difficult to find a job in Berlin. Yet this is a city that is open to ideas, especially open to good ideas. So if you have a new idea and you open a little shop with that idea, it is quite likely that it would work. Sometimes you do not need a space. My great, awesome, one and only hairdresser comes home. I just give him a call to make my ‘termin’ then he comes home, gives me a new hair cut, puts my pink hair into a good shape, and yep, its done! He is not expensive, professional hair dresser and know hair is important for women!
