Bring back Summer

Lately it’s been freezing !! I miss Summer. It’s particularly hard to bear because I know it’s Summer back home in Sydney. I wish my family could parcel over some warm sunshine. Der Winter gefallt mir nicht! or maybe it’s more accurate to say: Ich mag den Winter nicht! Either way you get my gist. Check out my Deutsch, I’m feeling a bit smug about it because I’ve been trying to drum pronouns and articles into my head  for the last few days.

It’s only the beginning of winter, how will we survive? By basically not leaving our homes.

Below is a photo for the TV tower in sunny Autumn to reminisce upon.

Countdown to Christmas

One of the classes at Deutsch Akademie must be counting down to Christmas! In the picture below is an Advent Calendar for Christmas, for the month of December you pick open a small door each day to find a small chocolate. Advent Calendars don’t exist in Australia, so I mailed a few to my friends and family in Australia as a surprise.

Christmas is a big deal here in Europe. Have you been caught up in the hype yet? 🙂 Hopefully it snows during Christmas, how special would that be!

Inclusiveness is a big deal here in Berlin

Sorry for the not so  great picture below. I took it in a rush on the train today. Hopefully you can zoom in and get the gist of it. I was struck by how inclusive the Berlin government is trying to be with new immigrants. There is a welcome centre with free career counselling in all sorts of languages! Really impressive! So if you or anyone you know is seeking some advice and guidance about job hunting then give this Willkommenszentrum a go!

Good on ya Berlin, two thumps up from me 😉

Learning German is a steep slope

Today was a much better day for me in class, I didn’t feel so lost and I actually felt confident in what I learnt today. Check out the massive paragraph in the picture below, I actually understood what it said and on top of which I could follow along with the teacher as we dissected the sentences into: subjekt, pradikat, objekt, akkusative and dativ. I totally surprised myself, I didn’t realise I  could understand all that. So despite feeling nervous about being able to learn and understand  German, obviously it’s slowly all sinking in.

So if you’re feeling uncertain about how well you’re learning German, just hang in there. You’ll surprise yourself with how much you’ve actually learnt.

Back for more Deutsch!

Today was my first day in A1.2. I completed the A1.1 course back in October, hopefully I haven’t forgotten too much! The December courses are more intensive because there are only 3 weeks of lessons instead of 4, and so classes run 5 days a week instead of 4. I’m nervous about how intensive the course will be, hopefully my brain can compute all the things we learn. I’ll keep you posted!

By the end of this course, I’m looking forward to holding a simple conversation in Deutsch, what an achievement that will be! 🙂

The Best Time in Berlin!

Hey everyone!

Where I come from there is this phrase that says „time flies when having a good time“. And so, time flew and without us to notice A1.1 course was over. I had a great time being part of my class, with people from all over the world: Italia, Portugal, France, Chile, Argentina & Nigeria.
We could manage to go out after classes and even on days when we didn’t have class.
This amazing group of people made my experience and time in DeutschAkademie a good experience!
Take a look at this picture:

After the last lesson, we all went together with our teacher Rudi, to a typical Bavarian place 5 minutes walk from DeutschAkademie’s building. It called „HB Munchen“ and it is a very big place in a Bavarian style. We had beer and set all together to celebrate the end of our first German course A1.1 🙂

You can see how big is the place. There was a band playing typical music and also some other songs.
It was a very nice experience, more than all the fact that Rudi our teacher came with us, and he was also the one suggested this place.
Very cool!

I recommend you to go there with your classmates!

This is my last blog, I want to say thank you to all of my readers. I hope your German experience would be at least as good as mine.
Good luck with everything!
Thanks to DeutschAkademie for giving me this opportunity to write to your blog!

See you soon! Enjoy Berlin!

Thank you, and Tschuss

It’s Not Just Learning…

Hey everyone!
Sadly, this is going to be one of my last blogs here (but who knows..) and once again I’m going to fill you up with information that might help you made up your mind about your German classes.

So, today I want to put the light on the class and lessons environment at DeutschAkademie German school.
Honestly, coming to class was one of the best decisions I made. The learning experience of a new language was very positive. Thanks to our teacher Rudi, the environment in the class during the lessons was relaxed, light in a way, and funny, not heavy at all, not too hard. He was very attentive, to the class’s needs and so, I think, he found the right way to teach us so we can observe well all the new information of a totally new language for us.

This picture here shows more than just a school, for me. It shows someone there wants you to have some fun during the classes. To change a bit the stress you’re in, maybe, to a positive new adventure (actually, the bear candies is a gift from our teacher Rudi). For me, feeling that somebody there wants me to feel comfortable and relaxed but not only wishes I would feel like that, but actually doing something for that with this gesture of colorful candies on our tables, make the difference! And makes an impact.

The feeling of warm welcoming, no matter where you come from is always the best feeling!
And for that, I give respect and send a thank you to DeutschAkademie school, that made me feel so nice during the classes.

I hope I could help you with your dilemma of which school to choose, as I know it’s not easy. But here’s a warm recommendation from a very good experience.

See you soon,

Tal.
